Brave Thunder Fan

Monday, June 4th, 2012

Game 5 vs Spurs approaches and there is one young Thunder fan here in San Antonio who won’t be at the game, but will be cheering on his team. 12-year old Joey Ryan of Edmond is at Children’s Hospital in San Antonio where he recently underwent open heart surgery. Always the Thunder fan, Joey walked into the hospital clad in his Kevin Durant jersey.

His dad tells us Joey took some good-natured ribbing from all of the docs, nurses and staff who are Spurs fans. He was especially proud to deck out his hospital room with a Thunder flag and Thunder gear. Joey, we wish you a speedy recovey. As you root for the Thunder, know that we’re rooting for you!

UPDATE!!!!!

Joey is now home in Edmond and doing well. He left the hospital in San Antonio, still in full Thunder gear.

A true work of art

Monday, June 4th, 2012

We all know that the NBA has a global following, but it’s still something very special to see Oklahoma City and the Thunder represented around the world.

From L-R: @AshleyEllis_ in Italy; Mini Rumble over a Venice canal; @aunt_beck in Africa. Ashley also commented that she saw another girl in Venice wearing a Thunder shirt, and we wonder if it was Mini Rumble's owner ... ?

But then there’s this photo, and you know you’re a true Thunder fan if it takes you a minute to look around and realize where it was taken:

Tulsa residents Mike and Robin Cescon, on vacation in Paris, had just finished gazing upon the “Mona Lisa” when they spotted another familiar icon. This young man, wearing a Kevin Durant jersey, walked past them on his way to see da Vinci’s masterpiece. Mike wrote:

I was walking away from Mona and saw this kid walking toward me, and I had no idea if he spoke English or not. I said, “So are they going to beat the Spurs?”  His reply was “Absolutely” in perfect English …

How can the Thunder lose with Mona smiling upon them?

I guess Mike, Robin and the young man will all be shouting “Allons Thunder!” tonight.

Edmond’s Thunder Alley

Saturday, June 2nd, 2012

The Homestead neighborhood in Edmond decided to hold their own version of Thunder Alley for tonight’s Game 4! Eric sent us the photo, adding that the neighbors have put up basketball hoops in the street, set up some grills for barbecue and brought TVs outside to watch the game. Way to show your Thunder pride, Homestead!

Gives new meaning to ‘Team Is One’

Saturday, June 2nd, 2012

It’s that time of year. Nope, not just Playoffs – it’s wedding season. Seems we have a lot of dedicated fans who are getting hitched and who are including their favorite team into their matrimonial celebrations.

Josh Klossner and his bride celebrated with a cake:

Another bride put her bridesmaids in Thunder jerseys – at least for the reception:

But this one has to be a first – a bride and groom coming to a Thunder game after the wedding, still sporting the wedding dress and tux:

Well done, fans – and congratulations to the happy couples!

Cruising in style

Friday, June 1st, 2012

Headed to downtown/Bricktown this weekend? This may be the most stylish way out there to get around. But, then again, we’re a little biased.

Catch the Thunder boat on the Bricktown canal and get ready for Game 4!

One OKC – even for some visitors

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

When we say everybody in Chesapeake Energy Arena gets a T-shirt, we mean everybody – even some of our special guests:

Tune in to TNT tonight and see what Ernie, Kenny, Charles and Shaq think of their shirts!

Stay safe, fans …

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Thunder fans, if you live in central OK and have been tuning in to Game 2, flip your TV over to check one of the local stations when you can to check out the radar. Make sure you’re paying attention to any sirens in your area, and stay safe out there!
