The Thunder Drummers found a new crowd to entertain this weekend. On Saturday, four of our drummers visited the Urban League of Greater OKC and kept the hundreds of families waiting for a free backpack thinking of beats, not the heat.
The Urban League’s Back to School Bash drew record attendance, in spite of record heat – more than 4,000 parents, grandparents and children came to the organization’s headquarters in northeast OKC to take advantage of the event’s free goods and services.
Families were able to pick up free backpacks and school supplies, as well as get free haircuts, immunizations, health screenings and other services. The family-friendly event included games, food and – of course – some Thunder-ific entertainment from our drummers.
Thanks to the Urban League, about 1,500 Oklahoma children are going back to school with new backpacks containing all the supplies on their list – and even more will have a healthy start to the school year.
